This program is designed to provide therapeutic catharsis for a wide variety of young people. Participants come to the program with a variety of difficult life experiences, which may include those in the "Adverse Life Experiences List" listed here.

Risk to Self or Others

  • Danger to self

  • Suicidal thoughts, gestures or attempts

  • Self injury (cutting, picking, head banging)

  • Danger to others

  • Symptoms, Clinical Concerns

  • Psychotic Symtoms or behaviors

  • Depression related problems

  • Anxiety related problems

  • Hyperactive and attention related problems

  • Adjustment related problems

  • Death of significant person

  • Separation/divorce of parents

  • Acute traumatic event

  • Chronic traumatic situation

  • Eating disorders

  • Phobias

  • Sleeping problems

  • Cruelty to animals

  • Gender identity issues

  • Multiple failed mental health placements


  • Recent hospital discharge

  • Child discharged from RTC/RTF in past mo.

  • Multiple out of home placements

  • History of residential placement

  • At risk for/has failed family home placement

  • Previous failed foster care placement

  • Failed adoption/family placement

  • Problems related to housing/homelessness

Social, Peer Interactions

  • Difficulty making/keeping friends

  • Lack of acceptance by peers

  • Non-engagement with people

  • Being bullied

  • Poor personal hygiene

  • Lack of self esteem


  • Multiple educational placement failures

  • Learning disabilities

  • School performance problems not related to learning disabilities

  • Poor school attendance, truancy

Substance Abuse

  • History of Alcohol Abuse

  • History of Drug Abuse

Criminal or Delinquent Behavior, Police Involvement

  • Conduct/delinquency related problems

  • Fire setting

  • Physically aggressive behaviors

  • Verbally aggressive

  • Sexually aggressive

  • Sexually acting out

  • Sexually inappropriate

  • Persistent non-compliance

  • Property damage

  • Stealing, theft

  • Police contact

  • Runaway/AWOL behaviors

  • History of JD/PINS

  • History of arrests

  • Gang involvement

Physical Health Issues

  • Physical complaints

  • Youth’s chronic health issues

Family Issues

  • Current maltreatment (child abuse or neglect)

  • History of sexual/physical abuse/emotional neglect

  • CPS indicated case

  • Family abandonment

  • Youth’s behavior is a threat to family safety

  • Sibling in residential placement

  • Violence within the family

  • Substance abuse by mother

  • Substance abuse by father

  • Substance abuse by other caregiver

  • Maternal depression

  • Other maternal mental health problems

  • Paternal mental health problems

  • Other caregiver mental health problems

  • Family health problems
